Hemophilia Christmas Party

The Northern California Hemophilia Foundation had their annual Christmas today and we were able to go. It was held at Oakland Children's Hospital, so it was kinda weird being back...it seemed like we just left this place!

We met some really great families...and it was so comforting to see their boys and the normalcy of their lives, despite hemophilia. One little boy ran up to his mom as we were talking and excitedly said, "Mom! Dad gave me my infusion...and he got it on the first stick!" This four year old was referring to the factor 8 given to him through a peripheral IV by his dad, with the help of one of our super amazing hemophilia nurses, Debbie. Seeing that little boy and his excitement  - and no tears - after being stuck with a needle in his little arm comforted me. Prior to this, I had visions of Rustin & I pinning Blake down as he screamed & cried while we struggled to start an IV on his little veins...it was now real to me, that this would not have to be the case. This party was just what I needed.

Santa made a visit to the party after lunch. You can see Blake's reaction to the whole ordeal!

Santa brought Blake a stuffed baby elephant that plays a lullaby.
